Nokia N82

Introduction:

In the middle of November, the new Nokia N82 was announced. Being a 80-series model, it is not among the top-of the-line Nokia phones (90-series), which is logical as its features are very similar to the 9-month old N95. The next high-end model which will be the successor of the N95 (including the 8GB version), is expected to be presented in the first quarter of the 2008, either on CES or 3GSM expos.

The N82 is Nokia’s first cameraphone equipped with a Xenon flash, instead of a standard LED one. This is what Sony Ericsson has been using in its top cameraphones since the K800 and has proved to be the best such technology. Flashes of this type have also appeared in the recently released high-end cameraphones of Samsung (G800) and LG (Viewty). The Nokia N82 is targeted not only as a high-end cameraphone but as an all-in-one multimedia device. It can also capture high-resolution (VGA) clips, manage audio and video as well as office files, as it is a Symbian 9.2 S60 smartphone.

Design:

Just a look is enough to see that the new N82 is … let’s say different. It doesn’t remind us of any previous Nokia phone, has very different style and design-language as a whole. We may characterize it as hate-it-or-like it style and as a whole it is not among the attractive phones. The entire phone’s body is made of plastic, but unfortunately there is a cheap feeling when using it, although the construction is solid. Still, the weight is pocket-friendly, which has been the idea of the manufacturer.

Creative Zen

Creative_Zen_phone.jpgThe Creative Zen is a sleek portable MP3 player that can play videos, audios, and unprotected music files. It's an update to the Zen Vision except that the Creative Zen doesn't have the big capacity of the previous Vision. It only comes in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacity.

SPECIFICATIONS:

The Creative Zen is a flash based player with a 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacity and a SD card expansion slot. It also has a FM radio player, 2.5 inch screen, built in voice recorder, weighs around 2.3 oz and capable of handling AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA, ADPCM, and Audible file formats.

ADVANTAGES:

Compared with the new generation of iPod mini, the Creative Zen has a larger screen, about 2.5 inch which makes watching videos a lot better compared with smaller screens. The screen is capable of outputting 16.7 million colors and though not as rich in color as the iPod mini's screen, it is capable of delivering good quality videos. The Creative Zen has a slim card design and it actually reminds me of the back of a digital camera. What is great about the Creative Zen is that although its capacity has been greatly reduced from the previous Zen Vision, it is a flash based player which means you can add as much memory as you like and transfer it from one flash player to another. Sound quality on the Creative Zen is great in whatever genre of music

Apple iPhone

iPhone is a device of quadruple-band GSM with the EDGE and support of WiFi, it has of the 3.5 display with touch of the Pixel 320×480 which it comes with a digital camera from 2 megapixel and 4Gb or 8Gb from memory. The internal operating software is a version of the Mac OS X.

It would be easy to get carried away with the hype and it does appear to be a highly desirable device but ultimately the Apple iPhone is not too dissimilar to devices such as the Nokia 7710, Nokia N800, Sony Ericsson P990i or any number of Windows-based HTC handsets. But because this is an Apple device, you can expect a little more polish and a lot more attention to usability.

Apple launch the iPhone as complete player of music, visual player of giant screen, telephones, device of Internet (employing the web browser of safari) and computer held in the hand also entirely described. Still, it is rather impressive. but the devices of Windows and Linux of competition offer the same kind of range of the devices. But the edge of Apple is in the user interface - the iPhone is conceived to be incredibly simple to employ with your fingers (rather than a needle). There is onscreen the keyboard for these people who must make typewriting, but otherwise it is much an operation of point and click (or tap).

iPhone specification:
Network:GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Data:GPRS + EDGE + WiFi
Screen:320×480 pixels
Camera:2 megapixels
Size:PDA-style device,115×61x12mm / 135 grams
Bluetooth:Yes
Memory card:No
Infra-red:No
Polyphonic:Yes
Java:Not specified
Battery life:5 hours talk / 16 hours video playback
OS:OS X

Up to now, so impressive.. but there are couples of the things which are immediately obvious like disadvantages. Firstly, the potrait/landscape display of Pixel modem 480×320 of portrait is impressive, but we estimate that the devices of Internet require at least for 640 Pixel of width, and beats of Nokia N800 the iPhone with 4 “the display of the Pixel 800×480 that the iPhone cannot simply match. The other disadvantage is that it is not a device 3G, although it supports the EDGE. With recognition however, Apple made with this a compound of quadruple-band GSM, thus this means that it should be world available.

The Apple iPhone is a sleek, elegant looking device with a black-and-metal design. At 115 x 61 x 11.6mm, the iPhone isn’t as big as you might expect.. and the 135 gram weight is pretty reasonable for this type of smartphone.

Kodak EasyShare v750

kodak_easyshare_v705.jpg
Introduction: Kodak EasyShare v705 is a self-effacing upgrade of the Kodak v570. Kodak v570 was released last year and it was also the first camera to feature two lenses. Kodak Retina Dual Lens Technology is the official name and it offers more standard zoom lens and ultra wide-angled lens.

Features: Kodak v750 has 2 lenses with 7 mega pixel sensors inside; it has a thickness of 20.4mm; high ISO range from 50-1000 which is available for all image sizes. EasyShare v750 offers 22 scene modes for every single possible situation; as well as it also offers an advanced video mode. You can reduce the camera-shake’s effect by turning on the digital stabilizer and can zoom up to 640×480 video at 30fps; and after the shot, you can even split the video in-camera.

Image Quality: 6 ISO settings are available in this camera which you can select at any instant. No discernible noise is found at the settings of ISO 50-100, which is the lowest ISO settings; begins to show some noise at ISO 200; camera blurs and noise has been deteriorated at ISO 400; ISO 800 and 1000 is better to use as a last resort because it makes so much noise.

Kodak EasyShare v750 dealt very well with chromatic deviations during the review even at the ultra wide-range settings of 23mm. V750 also offers a Macro setting that enables to focus within a short range of only 5cms. Kodak V750 offers the flash settings of Auto, Off, Fill and Digital Red-eye Reduction. The Maximum shutter speed is 8sec in the long exposure mode, so it is also quite suitable for night photography.

Steve Jobs recently debuted the MacBook Air.

Last yera it was the iPhone, this year it’s the MacBook Air - an uberthin laptop MacIntosh computer.

Jobs said it is the world’s thinnest notebook — just .76 inches at its thicket point and .16 inches at its thinnest. “We’re talking thin here,” he said. The crowd went crazy over the the new laptop. There’s no doubt that it looks impressive. It has an 80 gig hard drive and a built in iSight web camera.

The MacBook Air is built to be a wireless machine and does not have a built in optical drive. You can buy a disc drive as an accessory.

Here’s some of the basic features:
Weight: 3 pounds
13.3 inch display
Full sized, backlit keyboard

It looks to be pretty cool, even for someone that is used to working on personal computer..

Acer AL2016WCbd

Acer_AL2016WCbd.jpg
The Acer AL2016WCbd is a 20 inch widescreen monitor from Acer that doesn't have breath-taking picture quality but at its price, this will do okay for a PC monitor.

ADVANTAGES:

The Acer AL2016WCbd comes cheap, it has a maximum resolution of a1680 x 1050 and has a 20 inch widescreen size so it's perfect for watching DVDs on your PC. The Acer AL2016WCbd delivers good picture quality, no color bleeding, blacks are blacks, no whitish color. It has a DVI input which is great compared to older LCD monitors.

DISADVANTAGES:

The Acer AL2016Wcbd has no HDMI. I saw a not so popular brand on the net which has about the same specs but with HDMI connection, however, I could not see the picture quality to recommend it over this one. I hated the controls specially the power button on the Acer AL2016Wcbd, couldn't really tell if I turned it on, Acer should have gone with more subtle buttons like AOC.

New iPod Touch

ipod-touch-gadget.jpg
If you were expecting anything new from the Apple I must fill you with joy. Finally, the iPhone's family collection was joined by the new iTouch device. So what if your iPhone is filled with all sorts of great stuff? The iPod touch has more.

The iTouch doesn't include a phone, that's why its main feature is the text messaging. The iTouch can be connected to internet via Wi-Fi and that is why Apple added some other 5 applications. The main are Mail, Maps and Stock which start working when connected to internet. The coolest of those is Maps which now integrates with your contacts.

You just have to chose a contact, tap on maps and you will be given travel directions in a few seconds. No, it is not the GPS that helps finding directions. It is the Wi-Fi positioning technology – an interesting way to find the location and chart out the map.

Apple has also made some improvements in the touch screen programs so you could take a better advantage from the Wi-Fi. So don't worry, you will be able to e-mail a picture of you lying under Florida sun to your family and friends.

Samsung SGH-t739 (Katalyst)

Samsung-SGH-t739.jpgWhile T-Mobile is finally executing their 3G rollout, for those who wanted to stick with them and get high speed, the only real way was to get their Hotspot @Home service. There are only four handsets available for the service and the one we’ll be looking at is the Samsung Katalyst. Looking over the specs, there’s really nothing that makes it special so can this simple handset really be worth it? Let’s find out.

Design:

The Samsung Katalyst is made up of gray and chrome plastic that feels somewhat cheap but at least it’s supportive enough to prevent the handset from slipping out of your hands. As with sliders, the front is dominated by a TFT display that does a good job of showing true colors and detail. We did have trouble making out was on shown in bright environments even with the brightness turned all of the way up. Just below it will be the navigation and calling keys arranged in which are large enough to be easily used. Along the left are the volume rocker and the headphone/charger slot while the right holds the camera shortcut. On the back is the 1.3MP camera right next to speakerphone. There are two oddities in the layout the first of which being that they mirror is on the back of the upper portion of the slider. Our worry was that it would be too high to be useful but it actually captured the field very well. The second is that the microSD card slot is located inconveniently underneath the battery. That’s right; no quick hot swapping your cards here, the Katalyst will have to be shutoff each time

LG Viewty

lgviewty.jpgThe Viewty is LG’s flagship model, targeted as an all-in-one multimedia phone, stressing on the advanced camera features, camcorder and video playback options. It isn’t а direct rival of any device, but tries to target a consumers group as large as possible. It comes with the touch-screen and key-less navigation, similar to the iPhone but has a 5-megapixel camera with Xenon flash, which puts it next to the N95, K850 and other camera-dedicated phones. It isn’t а smartphone but comes with a bag full of surprises, including manual focus, 120fps video capture and DivX playback.
LG Viewty comes in a very well looking box, reminding us of the high class of the phone itself. All accessories are inside, including stereo headset (adapter and headphones), USB cable, charger, manuals, CD with software, and small Stylus. The latter can be attached to the phone in its hole for cord, and is retractable stylus with a cap. However, considering the finger-friendly interface, most will not use it.
The first thing most will notice is the huge 3-inch widescreen with 240x400 pixels resolution and up to 262’144 colors. While it is very bright and with a very good image, we would have liked to see a sensor for controlling its brightness level, to help reducing the battery consumption. It is touch sensitive and can be pressed with any object, not only with finger as in phones like the Prada or the Armani. The sensitivity is ok but scrolling needs some getting used to – you don’t have to just sweep your finger but do as if you grab the screen and then move it up or down.

Samsung FlipShot U900

samsung+flip+shot.jpgThe Samsung FlipShot U900, which replaces the A990, is a modern flip phone with rotating display that is targeted to the consumer who is looking for an easy to carry device with an integrated 3MP autofocus camera. It is available in two color choices: matte black with silver trim, or in a stylish red with silver trim. Both options are up to personal tastes, but it lacks the “shine” of the Gleam we recently reviewed. The biggest competition to the FlipShot is the LG Voyager, Motorola V9m and Maxx Ve, since all three have good quality 2MP cameras.
The Retail Package includes the Samsung FlipShot U900 phone, 880mAh battery, wall charger, hand strap, and user manual. It should also be noted that even though the FlipShot is capable of the TV-Out feature (just like the A990), the cable is no longer included and has to be purchased separately.
Current users of the A990 will welcome the modest improvements in the FlipShot, yet it does retain similar styling. The device is constructed with plastic throughout, but overall feels durable and should hold up to everyday use. The only problem regarding construction that we noticed was with the battery cover. Once it was removed, the plastic was flimsy and could easily be bent in any direction. We also didn’t care for the way the cover “snaps” back onto the phone at 6 different points.Little has changed regarding the flip; it is very easy to open and close, and can be rotated 180-degrees to activate the camera.

Motorola RIZR Z6c

motorola+rizr.jpgThe Motorola Z6c “World Edition” phone is designed for the average international traveler in mind that wants to be able to place and receive calls while abroad. It is capable of working on the Verizon CDMA network, as well as GSM 900/1800 networks when used in other countries, however a SIM card from Verizon is required. The only other device currently offered by Verizon to work on GSM networks is the BlackBerry 8830 Smartphone, which is targeted more to business travelers.Design:

The Z6c features a slider design and looks almost identical to the Z6tv, which offers Mobile TV service instead of international roaming. It is constructed from black and silver plastic throughout, yet is durable and should hold up to everyday use. The slider is very easy open and close and has a fluid movement to it. The back of the device has the same soft-touch coating that is featured on other Motorola phones (Maxx, V9m, Q9m).Located on the left side is the volume rocker and speakerphone button, while the right side has the voice command button, keypad lock, and microUSB port.

LG KS20

lg+ks20.jpg

Lately LG has been producing quite good looking and stylish phones and following this trend, they have recently added a new member to their line - LG KS20. It has a design almost the same as of a Prada phone, but with different functionality and purpose, for which the Windows Mobile 6 Professional and the built in WiFi contribute big time. If you are a fan of smartphones and beautiful designer pieces, this device will suit you just fine.

You can find:

1. Charger
2. USB Cable
3. CD with software
4. A wired handsfree divided in two parts – a microphone and stereo earphones
5. Manual Book

LG Voyager

Introduction:

One Word from me when the first time i saw this LG Voyager... WOW !!! ( With double W ) :) The Voyager is an upgrade from the enV, which was introduced around this time last year. The external touch display and user interface are what set the Voyager most noticeably apart from any other phone currently being sold by Verizon. It is targeted to the consumer that is looking for the ultimate entertainment/all-in-one device, without having to make the leap into smartphone territory. More importantly, it is designed to distract current Verizon customers wanting a touch-phone from looking elsewhere (iPhone).

The Retail Package includes
1. The LG Voyager phone
2. 950mAh battery
3. Wall charger
4. USB data cable
5. Music management CD
6. Manual Book.

We are glad to see the LG now includes the data cable and music management CD with both the Voyager and Venus, eliminating the need to purchase the over-priced Music Essentials package.

Panasonic DMC-LS80

panasonic-ls80.jpgThe Panasonic DMC-LS80 is powered by two AA batteries and is designed mainly for entry-level use. The Panasonic DMC-LS80 is mainly a compact digital camera with an 8.1 mega pixel resolution, 2.5 inch display, and a 3x optical zoom that features Panasonic’s newly developed LUMIX DC VARIO lens system.

Though the Panasonic DMC-LS80 is an entry level camera, Panasonic has packed it with features that would make any beginners look like professional photographers. The Panasonic DMC-LS80 has a Mega optical image stabilizer that compensates for any handshake during actual picture taking, an Intelligent ISO that would change and adjust shutter speed if it detects that the subject is moving. Sony Ericsson T280

Sony-Ericsson_T280.jpg
The Sony Ericsson T280 operates on GSM 850, 900 1800, and 1900 networks. It has a 65k color screen, and is available in silver and black. The Sony Ericsson T280 also has a built in 10MB of phone memory and a built in 1.3 mega pixel camera with 4x digital zoom.

WHAT'S TO LIKE:

Any fan of Sony Ericsson's older models would like the simple candy bar design. Though the phone is not exactly stripped down of features, it's still pretty basic and any non techie person would appreciate the user-friendliness of the The 1.3 mega pixel camera is an upgrade to the VGA cameras of the older phones and though a 1.3 mega pixel camera is not that powerful in today's camera phone standards, expect to get clear enough pictures to print on 3 x 4 photo papers. also has the capability to playback MP3 music as your ringtones, however, don't expect the to double as an MP3 player since it only has a built in 10MB of memory which is shared between your SMS messages and your phonebook, which means you're limited to about 2 to 3 MP3 files, and it has no expandable memory.

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS

Canon PowerShot-SD1100-IS.jpgThe Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH camera is offered in five lyrically named designer shades that suit the style, present the personality and express their user's taste and tempo. From the eclectic mix of antique elegance and au courant accessorizing of Bohemian Brown; the shimmering chic and subtle heat of Pink Melody; the wistful and occasionally wild stirrings of Rhythm and Blue, and of course, the exquisite refinement and enduring appeal of precious metals conveyed by the PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH camera dressed only in its Golden Tone skin or catching the array of light – both brilliant and soft–as it plays on the camera body's Swing Silver sheen, these cameras capture the images at hand while conveying a picture of their users worth at least a thousand words.
Adding to the new camera's versatility and optical excellence is its sharp and fast 3X optical zoom lens (38-114mm equivalent opening up to f/2.8 at wide-angle settings and f/4.9 at telephoto settings). Palm, as many of you know has revolutionized the smart phone, however, because of lack of new products it has been pushed back by competitors such as the iPhone and smart phones from Nokia and other cellphone manufacturers. Though I'm really not a Palm fan, I was surprised that I liked using the 755p. The Intel 312 MHz Xscale processor on this device can run applications smoothly with minimal hang-ups which makes it great for running the different applications preloaded on the Palm Treo 755p such as SprintTV, PocketTunes, Web Browser, Instant Messenger, Palm Desktop Software, etc

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

SE-X1.jpg
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is probably the best iPhone killer yet. It has everything the iPhone doesn't have especially the QWERTY keyboard. Well, these videos just makes me want to go out and buy one. Can't wait till this has been released. I was going to get the HTC TyTN II but after seeing this, I'm going to hold off upgrading my phone for a while. Here's the full video but I wish Sony Ericsson just did away with the paper airplanes and featured the phone more. I mean, they ARE selling the phone, right, and not the paper airplanes.
Though the name leaves something to be desired, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 looks good on paper. According to Microsoft's press release, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is HSDPA and WiFi capable. It also features a unique arc slider with wide-pitch and has a high finish metal body. Like most smart phones in the market, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 has a QWERTY keyboard and boasts of a 3 inch screen.

Sanyo Xacti CG9

SANYO_Xacti_CG9.jpgSanyo has once again made another compact digital camera/camcorder but unlike the Xacti HD1000 and Xacti HD700, the Sanyo Xacti CG9 is not capable of recording high definition videos. What the Sanyo Xacti CG9 does offer is a 9.1 megapixel still image capability and MPEG-4 recording.

Design

Like the other Xacti line, the Sanyo Xacti CG9 is very compact and there’s not much design difference between it and the Sanyo Xacti CG65 except that maybe the former has a more roundish and a bit bulkier design. It also has a cool shiny exterior and comes in three colors, black, red and white, and just pure white (colors available in Japan).

Features

The Sanyo Xacti CG9 can record high quality MPEG 4 AVC/H.264 videos which is compatible with most systems. The MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video codec also allows 1 hour video recording on a 1GB SD card. Sanyo opted to chuck the CCD sensor that was previously on the Sanyo Xacti CG65 and opted to go with a 9.1 mega pixel CMOS sensor on the Sanyo Xacti CG9. I don’t know if that’s a good idea as CMOS sensors tend to produce lower quality and noisy images compared with CCD sensors. I’m expecting a greater battery life on the Sanyo Xacti CG9 compared with the Xacti CG65 because of the change from CCD to CMOS.

The Sanyo Xacti CG9 is also capable of recording videos at 60fps. Ever since face recognition technology has become standard on digital cameras, manufacturers have a funny way of naming these technologies. Sanyo takes the cake by naming their facial recognition technology, “face chaser”, which can recognize up to 12 faces in a still image.

The LCD screen on the Sanyo Xacti CG9 is around 2.5 inch, it also has built-in flash, 40mb internal memory, image stabilization, 5x optical zoom and loads of other features.

The Pentax Optio V20 has a face recognition feature which can detect and focus on faces and then automatically sets the exposure settings. The Pentax Optio V20 also has smile detection technology. The blink detection technology on this digital camera will immediately alert the user when the subject closed their eyes during the shot so you can do a retake. Other features of the Pentax Optio V20 includes 52mb built-in memory, Auto-tracking AF and Auto-Macro mode.

Sony HDR-TG1

SonyHDR-TG1.jpgSony has announced their own pocket-sized wonder, the Sony HDR-TG1. Sony claims that the Sony HDR-TG1 is the world's smallest Full HD Camcorder.

Features

The Sony HDR-TG1 is a Full HD camcorder which means it can record videos at 1920 x 1080 resolution. This camcorder is also capable of taking still pictures at 4 mega pixel resolution. Recording at full HD ensures that you will be able to capture the highest quality video with vivid colors, less noise and more details.

The Sony HDR-TG1 has a face detection technology which can detect up to eight faces and then automatically adjusts color, exposure, focus, etc. The Sony HDR-TG1 has a Car Zeiss Vario-Tessar 10x optical zoom lensand a BIONZ processing engine. Another cool feature of the Sony HDR-TG1 is that it is capable of recording audio in Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound!

Wireless technology WiGig provide data rates of 1 to 7 Gb / s

United Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig), which includes such companies as Intel, LG, Microsoft and Samsung, announced the completion of the first specification of the same name by wireless technology. Standard WiGig uses a frequency of 60 GHz and a special format for ultra-dense data compression. This allows you to transfer data at speeds far exceeding the performance of traditional Wi-Fi networks.

Even in its original version WiGig technology can provide data rates from 1 to 7 Gb / s, which is more than 10 times faster than in networks of Wi-Fi. Accordingly, the new standard is able to provide opportunities simply unattainable using existing techniques, for example, wireless transmission of data interfaces DisplayPort, HDMI, and even PCI-Express.

Despite the greatly increased speed, technology WiGig maintain backward compatibility with standard Wi-Fi and can work with low power devices, such as mobile phones. However, the maximum range wireless technology WiGig not yet identified and are likely to be relatively low due to significant interference of radio waves at high frequencies.

Nevertheless, thanks to technology standard WiGig beamforming antenna can work at a distance of at least 10 meters. This is sufficient for use in home theater systems, computer adapters, and wireless monitors. Members of the organization of Wireless Gigabit Alliance should get specifications of the new wireless standard in early 2010 and soon thereafter be able to develop their own devices on its basis.
